The Alice + Olivia Fall/Winter RTW 2023 is a feminine take on feminine American classic. The whole theme of the show was American icons, and as an American brand that has been designing in New York for 20 years, the moment felt right that the collection had to be about America, and what the creatives in New York bring to American fashion. Alice + Olivia’s Stacey Bendet’s presentation was fun, and reminded the audience of a number of ideas derived from historical American fashion and pop culture influence. The collection was a trip down memory lane, with rock-‘n’-roll culture and glamour seen throughout, along with influences of ‘90s supermarkets and American snacks, road trips and skateboarding, American sportswear and denim, and the iconic Pop Art of Andy Warhol.
“Each of these sets is meant to really represent America in a positive way because I think the country has been so tormented and divided — we’re always sort of bashing ourselves. Let’s take the moment to celebrate the moment and show why America and American fashion is so globally relevant and cool.”
The presentation saw a strong selection of embellished and cropped bouclé jackets, paired with baggy jeans; striped and Pop Art colored sportswear, fun and chic tailoring with fluid frocks; a red faux leather trench coat; embellished, embroidered and studded partywear, including vegan moto jackets with a shimmering gold miniskirt or light brown tulle and black cotton lace maxi skirt; extravagant dresses and coats, including a black-and-white lace tiered gown with pearl details, and a black and gold embroidered Baroque cape.
